5th Complete Outfit

For my 5th outfit in my collection, I was inspired by the movement of soft, flowing chiffons. All my previous outfits involved jeans, shorts, jackets and shirt and so seeing as though we are nearing the end of our collection, with only two more outfits to go before creating our show stopper, couture gown, I wanted to create a beautiful and feminine outfit. I made a high waisted, full circle skirt. I used layers of chiffon to create a light and flowing garment. For the top, I used a sandy brown cotton stretch. I incorporated the brown to bring together all the colours of my range. I used a fine detail along all seam lines and hem lines for this top. I used a thick, blue embroidery thread, still keeping in mind the denim blue which has been used throughout my collection. The back of this outfit is my favourite. I used eyelits along the centre back opening and threaded blue string through the eyelits to give it a lace up effect. I loved making this outfit as it reflects my taste as an aspiring designer. with only two months left of the year, there is still so much left to do. It is all very exciting and stressful at the same time.

FEDISA COOKBOOK!

During our Visual Studies week we got a really interesting brief for an assignment which involved food photography. Myself and two other friends from the class got together and all did the assignment one afternoon. I loved this project! It was so nice to do something completely different as I had never done anything like it. We had to photograph the ingredients which would have been used in recipes. I went with an Italian theme. Using a puree creamy tomato soup for my starter, mushroom pasta for the main and a strawberry sorbet for my dessert. We all had such fun doing the models hairstyles and make up to suit the different recipes. All of my ingredients were photographed raw as they hadn't been cooked yet. Luckily our friend is an amazing, young and upcoming photographer who has all the equipment and lighting for a perfect photo shoot. He was able to give me helpful advice and fresh ideas on how to shoot the different food. I used my friend Jordyn for the modeling of the food and she looked beautiful in the shoot! I'm very pleased with how my photos came out and really enjoyed doing this assignment.

UPDATE

This week has been the final week for sewing our fifth garment for our graduation collection. For this outfit I incorporated a mix of brown and cream for the main part of my outfit and a touch of blue for the detail in the topstitching. I loved making this outfit because it has more of an elegant and girly appeal. I made a stretch, long sleeve top in nude brown with blue topstitching and eyelets and blue stretch string for the lace up. For the bottom half of my outfit I made a cream circle skirt which is very feminine. It is high waisted and full length to the floor with a lot of volume. This week I have also been working on my food photography assignment. A friend who happens to be a brilliant photographer was able to help me with my photographs which I am so happy with, they look amazing! Photos will be uploaded soon!

AFI CAPE TOWN FASHION WEEK, STEFANIA MORLAND

As you all know Cape Town’s fashion week was held at the CTICC, and I was lucky enough to get a ticket to see the Stefania Morland show, which took place on the final night of fashion week. The crowd itself was interesting, filled with really stylish and fashionable people waiting to see the collection. Movements and the colours of birds inspired the collection. It was eye catching and really inspiring for me, as an aspiring designer too see how the movement of clothing on the runway can look so effective. I loved her collection, the different fabrics that were used, amazing chiffons that created movements throughout her collection garments. The colour scheme consisted of shades of neutrals; gold, greys and toffee browns which looked exquisite on the runway. It was encouraging to see such talent amongst South Africa and the designers.

Beginning Of Second Semester.....

My internship with South African designer, Jenni Button went very over the holidays. She is an amazing and driven woman. She really inspired me and I was able to learn a lot from her. Pictures will follow. The holiday went by extremely quickly with so much to do, sewing and what not. Already back at FEDISA and ready to take on the fresh semester with new eyes and hopefully large amounts of ambition.
